Comment Here On Session 3

Good afternoon! We are back in a big way with the African Children's Choir and an unforgettable session with Rev. Floyd Flake.  If this doesn't wake you up after lunch, check your pulse! When I grow up I want to be like Floyd Flake; he is an incomparable community leader. He is a pastor, university president, congressman, and author. Along with its affiliates, his church, Greater Allen A.M.E. Cathedral of New York in Queens, is the second-largest African-American employer in New York City.

So listen with an open and uplifted heart as the African Children’s Choir and Rev. Flake inspire and then let us know what God is stirring in you. What are you thinking about as you listen? What questions are you wrestling with as you think about integrating what you hear into your own context?

Update: Rev. Flake's slides are available in the Next Steps tab on the session-in-depth page for session 3.  While you're there, don't forget to explore all of the resources, links, and more.

From a past African Children's Choir host family: Host these kids if you get the chance, not only can you minister to them, they will also minister to you. It will be an experience you never forget.

"The Shekinah Youth Church" is the name of Rev. Flake's youth group. I had no idea what "Shekinah" meant so in case you are wondering too, here is a link to the wiki page for that word. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shekhina

African Children's Choir was off the chart......that means "COOL" for all those not born after 1985. LOL! I love the work that Rev. Flake is doing...it was just a bit too much info. Almost a lecture instead of a training seminar! He is most certainly a man of God though that is called and is carrying out a sweet mission in New York!

it seemed like he touched on transcendent leadership at the end, but it wasn't clear to me.

are there on line synopses of each speaker? Rev Flake speaks pretty fast...I would love to have notes.

He definitely hit the transcendent leadership at the end... basically setting yourself up for when you are gone

Rev. Flake has a LOT to offer leaders. Unfortunately his delivery style got in the way. I missed many of his points - even though I'm taking notes on the laptop. Looking forward to researching and learning more about Rev. Flake and his leadership beliefs. His books will be GREAT!!

Yes - that was a lot of info. I tried to keep up. The 'after lunch' slot is a tough spot to fill. Wasn't there supposed to be a video at the end? They kept referring to it, but I don't think it happened.

Lorayne - we will post the slides and pictures from Rev Flake's talk here in the next few minutes. That should help - they did go by pretty fast.

There wasn't a video that was s'pose to be at the end, the intro video was the only video planned.

Chris You are correct...the Rev himself alluded to a video at the end of his presentation. I think they ran out of time.

coming from a special education teacher, every public school should have an infinities program. that was powerful!

Is it me or did he miss Transcendent Leadership? He's not done yet here in Phoenix, so maybe he'll come back to it.

I think it was great to hear about the community development spearheaded by the Rev. But like some have mentioned above his delivery was fast-paced, information-intense, and NON-STOP!!!! Whoo! I too was on a laptop and at one point I just closed the lid because I was so far behind on the points (it seems like it was difficult for the CG team as well!) I'll check out the topic notes that were posted, hopefully that helps me recoup from that session. I think he's a dynamic leader, and I would have loved to hear more about how he manages to be 'present' in all of his many places of leadership. It would be great to hear more from him in an interview format.

I found his delivery style very hard to follow. I think I would have got a lot more from him if he had started with the story about the trial and the financial allegations and what leadership principles he learned or improved on through that trial. Having attended the 2005, and 2006 conferences, I'd rate this the lowest session of them all for me personally.

With this session, I felt like I had a firehose of water shoved down my throat. There were no pauses so my ADHD kicked in and I had a hard time paying attention because I knew I could never catch up. As far as the transcendent leadership, it looks like he lost or couldn't find a page of his notes and then was kind of like going by memory and accidentally repeated the title of the section right before it instead of "transcendent leadership". So lets focus on his strengths instead. He's made such a difference in the world that I almost feel guilty nit picking.
