Leadership 2008

Next Step Questions

Hey everyone!  The Leadership Summit team put together these Next Step Questions to help you or your team take what you have learned and apply it to your life and mission.  Whether you personally journal with God or take an afternoon to go over them with your team, we pray that God will use these questions to challenge and inspire you wherever you lead.

If you think of any Next Step Questions that you want to share, we would love for you to post them in the comments section.  Let's grow together as we process all that we've learned!

Another great opportunity to continue your Summit learning is the 2008 Team Edition.  Along with videos of each Summit Session, there are also tons of great process tools to help your team revisit essential leadership principles.

Session 1 Questions:
What axioms, proverbs, or sayings tend to be used around your church? Can you identify any that you use personally in making leadership decisions? Share them with your team, or, if you’re by yourself, take time to reflect and journal about them.

Think back to a "this is church" moment that you have experienced. If you're with a team, ask each person to share a moment. If not, journal about the moment that comes to mind.

Session 2 Questions:
Leadership that matters is leadership in endeavors and issues that matter to God. If an outsider were to observe your leadership, would they conclude that you and Jesus are passionate about the same things? If they were to observe your church, would they conclude that your church is passionate about the things that matter to God?

How have you experienced God’s power, wisdom, and love when you have been willing to follow Him outside of your comfort zone? If you're with a team, try to think of at least one experience - large or small - to share. If you're by yourself, journal your thoughts.

Session 3 Questions:
Are you doing everything you can to develop your God-given gifts as a leader in order to make a positive impact on the world? Reflect on the ways that you nurture your leadership, and pick one area to ramp up your efforts.

Wendy emphasized that it's one's personal level of conviction that makes it easy to ask others to get involved. As a church leader, do you find it difficult or easy to invite others to get involved? Why do you think that is?

Session 4 Questions:
John described several barriers that prevent people in his community from turning to God. What barriers do you think exist for people in your community? How effective is your church at removing them?

Efrem described four qualities, based on 1 John 4, that leaders need to effectively lead across cultures and races. Which of the four, listed below, would you identify as needing the most work in your life?

  • Loving - loved by God with God’s love flowing through you
  • Abiding - abiding in God and being willing to go where the pain is
  • Confessing - confessing your excuses and where you’ve gotten it wrong
  • Perfecting - be willing to prune what needs to be pruned

Session 5 Questions:
What are you or your church doing that you need to stop doing?
What is God trying to show you or your church through your greatest limitations?
What has God called you or your church to do that you're afraid to attempt?
If you don't have it, what are you going to do to get it?

Session 6 Questions:
Which fundamental truth of the Christian faith that Chuck outlined resonated with you the most? Which do you tend to overlook the most?

Chuck mentioned the difference between imposing our faith on others and proposing a new way of life. When you talk with non-Christians about your faith, do you feel like you're imposing or proposing?

Session 7 Questions:
Catherine's calling to start Prison Entrepreneurship Program was fueled by her view of grace. Many have consciously or unconsciously considered prisoners to be excluded from grace. How have you typically viewed those in prison?

Catherine quoted her pastor, Keith Zafren, who said, "Just show up in the morning, get your orders for the day, and execute in obedience." Have you executed the instructions you've received in obedience? Have you allowed fear or criticism to stop you from pursuing your calling?

Session 8 Questions:
True leaders get a higher level of fulfillment from empowering other people than from their own personal achievement. When you're honest with yourself, which is a higher priority for you: empowerment or personal achievement?

Bill asked Brad what he would like his leadership era at Best Buy to be known for. Wherever you lead, when your tenure is finished, what would you like your leadership era to be known for?

Session 9 Questions:
Honestly reflect on this question: Am I one of the ones with a fully-committed heart whom God is searching the earth to find and strengthen?

Have you ever sensed a calling from God? How have you responded to it? Now that you've experienced this session, what actions are you going to take?

I agree with Matt, How do we get a copy of the spoken word video at the I end of Bill's message? I believe it was called, "Here I am" or "Here am I?" And how will we know when that is made available?

I agree with everybody's message above - I have been searching for the last hour or so the entire webpage for the video/compilation where the words who God is appeared on the screen. Could you please make it available for download - to reflect on it personally and corporately. Thanks so much for this event. It will be accounted for in eternity!

Here are the commitment statements: God, I yield myself fully to you. I embrace your calling on my life. I will do your bidding without delay. I will refuse you nothing. I will endure all hardships. When I don’t feel your presence, I will still be faithful. I will seek to love you as you have never been loved before. Here am I; send me.
