Anyone who has produced any event at any scale had to marvel at what the Chinese director and his cast of 15,000 pulled off. Stafford

I was blown away... I will be watching the video of the open celebration for some time to come. Wow is pretty much all I can say now. The creative energy was off the charts. Zhang Yimou is a creative mad man! As I only have at the most a few weeks prep or maybe even a few months (Sunday seems to always come every 7days) I know my parameters but I do celebrate the sacred in the creative... awesome! Frankly if London has any hope of taking the creative baton and running their leg well... they many need to hire Zhang Yimou!

re: Spectacular Opening Ceremony

I totally agree on the beauty and magnitude of the opening ceremony. It was breath taking, to say the least.
Still, I can't help but feel a little weird about how they achieved this feat. There are plenty of stories that concern me, and part of the controversy can be read in this article in the Bangkok Post::

I don't know, but if I practiced opening an umbrella over a thousand times, I think even I would eventually get the timing right...
The fact that the ceremony's director, Zhang Yimou, claimed only North Korea could have done it better, indicates that after all, maybe this is not an example to follow...

I almost felt intimidated watching it. I wondered the same thing, how long have they been working on this? My creativity is so small scale! Lori

I've been doing some searches myself for behind the scenes info and stumbled upon a few interesting sites/blogs - here they are. The last details pre-ordering DVDs of from NBC and a Chinese TV company that are both said to feature footage from the opening ceremony.

The first link here is perhaps worthy of making it a separate post on the arts blog for everyone to see? (as many may miss this comment.)
