Checking In

I'm still thinking about the message this weekend ... because I was producing the services this weekend I heard the message 3 times.  The phrase I am still wrestling with is "Let's be real clear, we are doing this for Christ."

I think this is a truth we need to regularly check in with.  It is easy for me to slip into autopilot ... serving because it is my job.  Sometimes I am serving to get the approval of who I report to, my team or the congregation.  The list could go on.  The unfortunate truth is despite outward appearance, I am not always doing it for Christ.

So, I have been making a list of what is shadowing my ministry.  What is pulling my focus?  What is broken in me that I am seeking approval and recognition elsewhere?  Maybe that would be something worth your time this week.

Steps 2 ... make a list of what keeps your focus on serving for Christ.  What practices do you have to have in place to keep you centered?  What people do you have to surround yourself with to keep you focused?  Have you given a few people permission and encouragement to speak the truth to you?  After you serve, do you practice self-examination?  Review your time of service - think back to your attitude, actions & words.  Did your time of service reflect "I am doing this for Christ?"

This is to my Father's glory, that you bear much fruit, showing yourselves to be my disciples.   John 15: 8

Tell us what practices keep you centered on why you serve.
