Get Ready
There is a lot to get ready for the weekend's service
- charts to write, rehearsals to lead, lights to aim ... it can be easy to pay attention to tasks; people will notice if the end product is incomplete or less then excellent. So, sometimes we compromise the preparation of our hearts and minds. We don't check in with our teams on this area of getting ready for a service. It is can be easy to make it look good. But the truth is ... it is visible. Our lack of preparation leaks out in a meeting or a stressful rehearsal. Our words during worship don't match how we live the rest of the week.
One of my friends who coached vocalist regularly would have her team use the songs they were going to sing that weekend in their study and prayer time. She would encourage them to find scripture that served as the foundation of the words they were singing. The team would journal on what those songs meant to them personally. They wanted to be able to sing the words from an authentic heart. They didn't just learn the words ... they prepared their hearts and minds for the ministry they were partaking.
What do you doing to prepare for the weekend?
Therefore, prepare your minds for action; be self-controlled; set your hope fully on the grace to be given you when Jesus Christ is revealed. 1 Peter 1:13
