2 Dates and a Dash

Besides 2 dates and a dash ... have you thought about what will be said on your tombstone?  Have you thought about what people will say about you after you die?

It may sound morbid to some of you but I think about what may be said about me after I die.  I don't think about it to the point of distraction.  And technically I am not concerned about my tombstone but I do think about what my husband, children, family and friends will say about me.  I wonder what those who I have served and worked alongside will say.

While reading Batterson's book, Wild Goose Chase, I was reintroduced to the missionary A.W. Milne.  Some of you might be familiar with his story.  Milne felt God calling him to the New Hebrides in the South Pacific to serve a tribe of headhunters.  All the missionaries before him had been martyred but Milne chose to follow God's calling.  He served God in the New Hebrides for 35 years.  He never returned home.  His tombstone was engraved with the following, "When he came there was no light. When he left there was no darkness."

So, besides the 2 dates and a dash ... what will be said of your life?

Thanks for the reminder Pam. I often I find myself immersed in my own plans (which are not bad, but they can become distracting) and forget how much I want to be a part of God's story in this moment in time. It's during those times I will pick up my copy of Erwin McManus' Chasing Daylight and re-focus my direction. Every day I'm faced with a host of choices and decisions to make, some significant, others trivial. In his chapter on choices, Erwin writes: When you seize divine moments, you instigate an atomic reaction. You become a human catalyst, creating a divine impact. As Christ-followers, isn't that what our lives should be about? Shouldn't we be extending God's grace and allowing him to use us to impact the lives of others? Shouldn't we be bringing light into the darkness around us? And, it is all around us!
