Otaku is a Japanese term used to refer to people with obsessive interests.
Otaku is the interest or activity that you are always talking about. It's the show that you are willing to stand in line all day to see. It's the object that you are willing to go in debt for. Otaku has you buying books and searching online to read more about obsessive interest. Your Otaku has you talking to your friends (or strangers) about it. You simply believe your Otaku is the best in the world.
The iPhone has enormous Otaku following. Everywhere you go, you see people huddled around marveling at its features. iPhone owners believe it’s simply the best invention ever conceived. I believe ‘Settlers of Catan’ is the best board game created. I tell everyone I know and try to get them to play. I believe that if you give me a chance, I can get you hooked on it. I also have a serious Battlestar Galactica Otaku. Give me 60 mins and I can get you hooked on that TV show. Creative Leaders must have Otaku. You need to have a driving passion to change the world around you. To make it a better place AND make it a more beautiful place. You must have a belief that the church is God's first and best way to love the world. Your Otaku will drive you to not settle for mediocrity, not settle for the predictable, and not settle for boring. Being known as a Otaku leader is not easy. It takes time, money, energy, failure, creativity, frustration and passion. Having Otaku simply means you are striving for your creative best. If you achieve it or not doesn’t matter- what matters is, that is your goal; to be the best ('best' meaning real, original, & excellent). It may be at song writing, art, music, dance, poetry, writing or leadership. Just be the best. Read more, see more, talk more, experience more than anyone else about your Creative Otaku. It will be exhausting and come at a sacrifice. However, the rewards can be summed up in one word; Influence. As an Otaku Leaders, you can use that influence to inspire your church, the community, and to change the world. But you can only have influence if you possess an Otaku. Do you have it?
Avoid the pitfall of ‘Jack of all trades, master of none’ title. Don't believe in the allusion of being 'well rounded'. That is a pit of no return. Master your area. Discovering and embracing your Otaku is the key.
