A brave new world
Hello to the arts movement community! I am so honored and blessed to be apart of the creative voices of the Towards Wonder site. My hope and prayer is to ennoble creative leaders through writings, illustrations, interviews, and observations. So here are my initial thoughts:
It’s no doubt that we have entered into a new world. A world of uncertainty, a world of discomfort, and a world of disillusionment. Our environment is changing around us very rapidly. Social, technological, economic, political, and religious circles are all being decimated by this tsunami of change. Just to be a competent artist or leader is not enough to navigate this crisis. I believe you have to become a Creative Leader. Creativity is the new ‘difference maker’ in this struggling world. It changes everything. Creative leadership turns positives into negatives, it redeems beauty from ugliness, and it brings value from the forgotten. What distinguishes a creative leader from other types of leaders? This simple mantra: Design Matters.
Whether it’s a service program, room design, website, systems, or experience, design must be the first and last consideration. The fact that we (as leaders) have the ability to create and impose our ideas in our communities is a God given right and privilege. I believe every leader (artist, business, community developer, pastor, or politician) share a spiritual & moral responsibility:
- To create a better world
- To create a beautiful world
What does that look like? Well we’ll be exploring that together through this blog. A new style of leadership is emerging in all sectors in this world because of global shifts. I believe Creative Leadership is a gift from God to help us lead the way to a new future. Too often the church is behind the rest of the world when it comes to leadership. Don’t let that happen.
