Without Him Nothing Was Made

One of my favorite passages in the Bible - one that reads like poetry even in the English language - is the first chapter of the gospel of John.  This morning I read those familiar words once again, "without him nothing was made that has been made."  I don't want to rush through that magnificent thought.  For those of us who seek to create anything (which is basically all humans!), how humbling to be reminded that all of the raw materials we use for crafting anything come from one source, our Sovereign Creator.  True, we are made in His image.  And therefore we are creators (with a small "c") with the gifts entrusted to us by our Savior.  Our creative work is one of the ways we most manifest the redemptive power of God in our lives.

Whatever you make today - whether it be the choreography of a dance, the editing of a video, the baking of a cake, the writing of words, the design of a graphic piece, or simply the crafting of a meaningful conversation - do your work with the God-given dignity of one who is imitating the Word who became life, who dwelt among us, who brought us out of the domain of darkness into the kingdom of glorious light.  When we create, we manifest our destiny.  Let us humbly remember the source of all our creative power, and then boldly move into the adventure of co-creating with our Redeemer.  What a holy calling and privilege!
